Their wish was for their names to become wish-fulfilling to heal both mental and physical sicknesses and diseases of all sentient beings for temporal and ultimate happiness. Their prayers were to be actualized during the degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. The bodhisattvas' enlightenment gave them the power of prayer, and all their prayers were fulfilled. Their power can be fully trusted to quickly grant blessings and assist all sentient beings during these challenging times. The Seven Medicine Buddhas are known for their healing powers, with the main one being the 'Lapis Buddha of Medicine, King of Light'. Buddha Shakyamuni taught the teachings on the Medicine Buddha, and according to one tradition, he is also considered as one of the Medicine Buddhas, thus making them the Eight Medicine Buddhas.
The Seven Medicine Buddhas were manifested to pacify the obstacles to the achievement of temporary happiness, liberation, and the ultimate happiness of full enlightenment. With the power to heal diseases and purify the mind, the Medicine Buddha practice is effective in bringing success both temporarily and ultimately. It is also utilized to purify those who have already passed away and liberate them from suffering.
The Seven Medicine Buddhas' past as bodhisattvas generated a strong intention to become enlightened for the purpose of meditating and actualizing the path. Their prayers were promised and prayed to actualize all the prayers of living beings in the degenerate time when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline, making them a powerful force during these challenging times.
