Avalokiteshwara, a popular Bodhisattva, is depicted in various forms across Buddhism. In the Sahasrabhuja form, he has multiple heads and arms. A famous story says he vowed to free all beings from samsara, but realized many still suffered. He gained eleven heads and a thousand arms to hear and aid those who suffer.
