Tibetan Yab Yum Painting | Wooden Wall Hanging 41cm x 30cm x 2.5cm
This is a stunningly beautiful, hand made wall-hanging depicting Yab Yum has been hand painted and framed by craftsmen from Nepal.
The representation of yab-yum, which translates as ‘father-mother’ in the Tibetan language, is common in Tibetan Buddhist iconography. It is associated with Anuttarayoga Tantra and depicted as a female seated on the lap of a male in an embrace. The feminine form represents wisdom (prajna), whilst the masculine form symbolises compassion and skilful means (upaya-kaushalya).
The yab-yum position appears frequently in tantric art, both Buddhist and Hindu, and is considered to be an iconic representation of tantra. Its meaning exceeds sexuality (as we understand it on a human level) and instead refers to divine, cosmic sexuality: the union of duality in the core, where all opposites unite into the totality while the distinctions between the individual elements remain intact.
